Plankton Energy Energizes 431-Kilowatt Solar System for ShopRite of Passaic, New Jersey
Plankton Energy, a New York-based solar energy developer, has energized a 431-kilowatt rooftop solar system at the ShopRite location in Passaic, New Jersey. Part of Wakefern Food Corp., ShopRite is utilizing over 940 solar modules to generate more than 550,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, fully meeting the store’s electricity needs. This renewable energy solution will significantly reduce the store’s reliance on traditional utility sources, offering a more sustainable and cost-effective energy model.
Over the system’s lifetime, ShopRite is expected to save over $1.25 million in electricity costs while avoiding more than 4,320 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. These financial and environmental benefits support ShopRite’s broader sustainability goals, further enhancing the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and improving operational efficiency.
The project was supported by New Jersey’s Successor Solar Incentive (SuSI) Program, which provides financial incentives aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean energy across the state. Through such programs, developers like Plankton Energy are able to deliver long-term environmental and economic value to commercial property owners.
