First United Methodist Church in Williamstown Partners with Plankton Energy to Power Its Mission with Solar
Plankton Energy, a New York-based solar energy developer, has partnered with First United Methodist Church in Williamstown, New Jersey, to install a 33.2-kilowatt rooftop solar system — at no upfront cost to the congregation. The project was supported by New Jersey’s Successor Solar Incentive (SuSI) Program, which provides financial incentives aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean energy across the state.
The system will generate significant long-term savings, cutting the church’s energy costs by over $120,000 over its lifetime. It will also reduce carbon emissions by more than 16.2 metric tons, the equivalent of avoiding nearly 826,000 miles driven by a gas-powered car.
This project comes at a time of rising momentum for clean energy adoption nationwide. Federal policy like the Inflation Reduction Act has expanded access to solar incentives, particularly for nonprofits and faith-based organizations. With these new tools, developers such as Plankton Energy are making solar more attainable—helping institutions like First United Methodist Church embrace sustainability without financial barriers and remain focused on their core mission: serving others.
Plankton Energy is a turnkey solar energy development firm committed to helping churches, schools, and small businesses across the U.S. transition to clean, cost-saving energy.
