Saxe Middle School Goes Solar in Partnership with Plankton Energy
Saxe Middle School in New Canaan, Connecticut, has taken a significant step toward sustainability and cost savings with the installation of a 165.9-kilowatt rooftop solar array, developed in partnership with Plankton Energy. Installed at no cost to the school, the solar system is now generating clean, renewable electricity to power a large portion of the campus’s energy needs.
With the system fully operational, Saxe Middle School is expected to save more than $630,000 in energy costs over its lifetime by producing approximately 220,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually. These long-term savings, combined with the environmental benefits of reduced carbon emissions, position the school as a model for responsible energy use in education.
The project comes amid growing national support for clean energy initiatives through legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, which provides new financial incentives to help public institutions access renewable power. The project was supported by New Connecticut’s ZREC Solar Incentive Program, which provides financial incentives aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean energy across the state.
